Heart, Donovan, the Faces, Freddie King and Laura Nyro are among the nominees for the 2012 class for Cleveland's Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame announced early today.
Here's the complete list as announced by the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame and Museum early Tuesday: the Beastie Boys, The Cure, Donovan, Eric B. & Rakim, Guns 'N Roses, Heart, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Freddie King, Laura Nyro, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rufus with Chaka Khan, the Small Faces/the Faces, the Spinners, Donna Summer and War.
A noticeable omission are the Monkees, who made a huge effort to get into the Hall over the past year with a widely publicized tour that received very positive reviews from critics (including us).
The winning nominees, along with the non-performer inductees, will be announced in late November or early December, according to a spokesperson for the Rock Hall. Beatles fans have long hoped that Beatles manager Brian Epstein would be a non-performer inductee. Advertisement In conjunction with the Nominee announcement, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum also announced the schedule of public events leading up to the induction ceremony, which will return to Cleveland after having been conducted in New York City last year. The ten days of events starting April 5 will include the Induction Ceremony at Public Hall , the opening of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Library and Archives, opening of more Museum exhibit space, a new exhibit at the museum, a free concert, "Rock My Soul: A Gospel Tribute," free museum day, a Hall of Fame series, a national broadcast of the Museum’s "On The Road" program with a guest appearance by a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee and a digital learning project showcase. The ceremony will be open to the public. Tables and VIP packages are available. Individual tickets for the induction ceremony will go on sale in December 2011.
